I started by creating a library of AI-generated backgrounds, then the physical vehicles were photographed by Jeff Ludes in a studio. But we also incorporated another level of production... in the studio, we used the Gybow system to project a dome of each environment onto the vehicles, so they had natural reflections of the backgrounds they were being placed in. Amazing! This was for Acura Certified Pre-Owned Vehicles, and we needed to create 40 static images and 5 AI_generated animations for 5 different vehicle models.&nbsp; It was tight timeline and new production process, but the results speak for themselves. Its flagship product is the Fastport eQuad, a purpose-built, four-wheeled electric cargo quadricycle aimed at completely replacing traditional gas-powered delivery vans in dense cities) but create all of the imagery for the website comps in AI. THE SOLUTION: Work with a team of developers and digital designers to establish a unique look &amp; feel for each of the three options. Then use Freepik to generate a batch of AI images and videos to be used in each web layout.ROLE: Lead Art Director for Asset Development. Using Freepik and retouching, I created nearly all of the imagery and videos that were used for the product-heavy websites. Taking client-supplied studio images and 3D renders of the eQuad, I used AI to insert talent/drivers, and place the product into real-world scenarios, and lifestyle situations. This was the first practical photoshoot I had done in at least five years. It was so great to get out to real locations with a real vehicle, and capture the authenticity and ruggedness of the all-new Passport in beautiful spots around Colorado. I worked with a great team on this one. Kelly Fitzpatrick and I tag-teamed this shoot and got to really push some limits for how we typically shoot Honda vehicles. We worked with photographer Chris Delorenzo and his motion capture team and got some spectacular images and footage. I was the Art Director for the project, Sheryl Stewart was the copywriter (for John Cena's VO script) and the edit was done by Justin Mashouf at Helium. The fun (and very efficient) approach we had to this project was pushing for us to be able to pull from the recent Passport video shoots done by the Asset Gen team (which I was on) and the National team. Plus, I was the Art Director for the Passport Running Footage project, so any footage of features that we didn't already have, I was able to capture on the running footage shoot. This allowed for a much more robust and dynamic look to the final edit. It was great to be able to scour through all of the previously shot footage, find what I needed, and then fill in any holes on the running footage shoot. Each video needed to show off a number of key features within the individual catagories (Exterior Styling, Interior, Electrification, and Technology). THE SOLUTION: Use a wall panel LED system to display four specific images that give a sense of place, and relate to each of the four catagories (urban, forest, home charging, road trip) and have the vehicle on a rotating turntable in the studio floor, so we could move the vehicle to the angle we needed and still have the LED environment in the background for every shot. ROLE: Lead Art Director. Created the overall concept. Designed the storyboards and shotlist for the video shoot. Found and retouched the imagery used for the LED screens. Selected the music used in the background. Designed the onscreen copy overlay animations (supers). Working remotely from Spokane, I directed the video shoot that was happening in Los Angeles. Worked closely with the video editor to direct the finel edits of the four individual feature videos, plus a longform version that combined them all into one video.&nbsp;Enjoy. For the last year or so we’ve been required to create all of the launch imagery for Honda using only CG vehicles on licensed backplates. This option did not offer us any flexibility with lighting or camera angle adjustments. So I worked together with Taylor James to design and create multiple full CG environments using Unreal Engine (UE), that woud allow us to have 100% control over the time of day, time of year (seasons), vehicle placment, and camera position and lensing. It was basically a vitual photoshoot with total control of the vehicle and environment (a la Bruce Almighty).&nbsp; After designing an ‘urban’ environment, a ‘wooded lakeside chalet’ environment, and a ‘parking garage’ environment, I did virtual location scouting and was the Lead Art Director for a full suite of images and videos within our newly created Hondaverse.
